Regulatory texts

At a glance, the regulatory texts governing the banking profession.

SEPA

SEPA stands for Single European Payments Area. With the implementation of SEPA, it will be possible to make retail payments in euros anywhere in Europe with the same security guarantees, at the same cost and just as easily as in one country at present.

As well as covering all European Union member countries, SEPA also includes Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.

This year, European means of payment have been coexisting with the main national payment instruments. However, the latter are due to be phased out as follows:

  • Transfers became SEPA transfers in 2008,
  • Direct debits will become SEPA direct debits in 2010,
  • From end-2011, national payment instruments will gradually be replaced by European instruments (in particular, debit and credit cards)

AUTHENTICATION VIA INTERNET

Neuflize OBC, a member of the Association Française de Banques (AFB), has chosen to promote the charter and Internet advertising campaign launched by the government on 29 January 2008 via a dedicated website called ‘Surfez intelligent’ (Surf smartly). The campaign translates one of the recommendations of the Interministerial Committee on the Information Society (CISI) concerning authentication via Internet. Neuflize OBC’s active participation in the campaign shows that it is acting as a responsible player and illustrates its determination to constantly improve Internet security. This type of action reinforces the notion of a chain of responsibility involving all the players, i.e. not just the banks but net surfers and the government as well.
