Sustainability

The need for seeking a new balance between people, planet and profit or, in other words, to do business in a more responsible manner has become more and more evident. Huge pressure on the environment like climate change, diminishing biodiversity, and extreme poverty may trigger irreversible developments that affect the world economy and distort global society. Leading companies are limiting their risks by abandoning markets and are pursuing new opportunities by looking for new markets and developing new products.

Leading in sustainable development

ABN AMRO has been and continues to be considered one of the world’s leading banks on  sustainable development. We have worked on a wide range of topics to become a more sustainable organisation:

  • Offering over 40 different sustainability products, varying from the ABN AMRO Wind Energy Certificate to the ABN AMRO Duurzaam Donatie Fonds (Sustainable Donation Fund) and products from other providers to create the best solutions for you
  • Offering a Sustainability Indicator that guides you in your investment process (see below)
  • Publishing several studies on the investment implications of climate change and alternative energy
  • Organising special client events with distinguished speakers like Al Gore to discuss the link between sustainability and investment
  • Incorporating sustainability into our internal processes by reducing the use of paper and energy and by using products such as coffee, energy, paper, and wood that have been manufactured and processed in a sustainable way

Your Sustainability Indicator

Investment focus on sector

Every sector has its own unique characteristics. In order to give you relevant insight before investing, the Sustainabiliy Indicator is appointed within a sector. Companies are reviewed on sustainability aspects that are relevant for their sector, in addition to being benchmarked against other companies and ranked. The ranking consists of five categories: well above average, above average, average, below average, well below average, in comparison to the average of the sector.

The Sustainability Indicator is based on information from Triodos MeesPierson and does not give an opinion about products and services a company provides or the sector in which the companies operates.
